Update on life

Wow it’s been a long time since I wrote anything and life has been CRAZY! So I’ll share some highlights 🙂

Late last August we FINALLY bought our house and land in Albion Maine. It’s 4 bedroom on 10 acres with 3 small ponds … SOO much potential I’m so excited! There are loads of apple trees all around, better exploring this year will tell us just what we have and what we need to plant 😃

We spent the fall painting, a few minor fixes, assessing things that need to be done this year fix and improve the house and of course moving in and setting up. Goodness do we have a lot of stuff that I STILL don’t know what I really want done with it … a negative of 4 girls into crafts in the same house 🤣

Joe spent most of his “free time” cutting, splitting and stacking wood to get ready for winter in a hurry! That was a lot of time and work itself!

The kids and I painted almost all the rooms, I seriously dislike white to beige zone so I chose gray, tan and soft green as the main colors with pops of blue in the kitchen and maroon in the dining room. I think it flows nice and is warm without being overwhelming! **yes we painted over the ugly wallpaper since we’ll be tearing out walls and updating wiring over the next couple years **

I’m looking forward to tearing out the flooring, carpet and linoleum from the 70s and getting new flooring put in! First though we need to lift the center beam of the house as it is sagging so that’s a big project for this year! I’ll definitely be sharing pictures and possibly some video of that process, who knows maybe it will help one of you with a similar need 🙂 Let me know in the comments if this sounds interesting to you, would you like to see video? Do you have knowledge if doing this project and have some pointers? Please be sure to share in the comments!

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New year were all a blur! I spent what time I could knitting blankets for the kids for Christmas and making things for the baby! I’ll come back and post about some of those baby projects, some are saving lots of stress now with Covid-19 craziness causing people to hoard! Things like cloth baby wipes and solution for them, Knitting socks and more!

The morning of January 8th I went in to the hospital to be induced to have our baby hoping for another of my typical, quick and easy deliveries. Well at 8:29 PM on the 9th, after 2 days of back labor and baby going into distress, Miss Aurora made her entrance into the world via c-section. Born with a temperature over 102 and angry screaming at everyone and quite bloated from all the fluids pumped into me for 2 days, she was otherwise perfect 💞

From then until the last couple weeks life has been about healing up and adjusting to newborn in the house life! Also just the maintain and survive winter level of life Haha.

THEN comes the coronavirus to throw us all a big ol’ curve ball! So kids have all been home, we’ve been slow going getting into fun stuff and learning it’s been a lot of relaxing and kids digging into various projects or screen time of their own but baking, sewing, painting, learning about edible and medicinal plants, exploring the woods have all begun now!

Most of the reason I let the kids relax is that I have been very focused on planning what to do for projects this year, planning gardens, where to put the start of our orchard and berry patches and what to get this year whew! I’ll go into more on all that later and share some of what I’m doing and what I’ve found. We have a big battle ahead on this since we are starting from woods 🤣 oh my! Stay tuned to see our progress 😃

We will be starting to hatch chickens and quail soon so if you are interested on chicks let me know I’ll see what we can do! I LOVE LOVE LOVE hatching it’s just so exciting!

So now you’re more or less caught up on life! Now it’s time to get busy in making lots of changes! I hope you’ll again follow along as we really get moving in our journey! This year’s goal is to break quite a bit of land, improve soils and grow most of the produce we’ll need for the coming year plus and … hopefully… have some extra to sell! Also to get a steady flow of eggs and meat from our quails for year round coverage… let’s see how that goes! 😄🤞

Here’s a picture of Aurora just because she is cute 😁

Leave a comment and share what your plans are this year!

  1. That’s a long list of “Hope to…” I hope you can accomplish even half of that. It would still be successful. I wish you all well. Remember that you have builders in the family to get info from before you start the beam job. They could give you some good advice, I’m sure. Have fun with all these jobs.

    • Thank you, yes it is quite the list! We will definitely be checking with several people to have multiple ideas, styles, etc since things usually dont go quite as planned! 🤣
